The bars are made in 3 layers. The base layer is a blend of flour, sugar, margarine and slashed pecans. You prepare it first for around 15 minutes. Make certain not overbake it as you would prefer not to dry these bars out.

These key lime bars are amazing. And they pack a powerful lime punch! Perfect for summer dessert. I like to sprinkle some addition lime peel over the top before serving.

Ingredients
Crust:
  • 1¾ C all purpose flour
  • ¾ C butter softened
  • ⅓ C sugar
  • ⅓ C chopped pecans

Filling:
  • 1 ½ C sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 Tbsp flour
  • 5 Tbsp fresh key lime juice
  • ½ tsp baking powder

Frosting:
  • 2¼ C powdered sugar
  • 1½ Tbsp butter softened
  • 2-3 Tbsp fresh key lime juice
  • Freshly grated key lime peel

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 F degrees
  2. Combine the crust ingredients except for the pecans into a bowl
  3. Beat at low speed until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
  4. Add in the pecans
  5. Press mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 9 x 13 pan
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until edges are slightly browned
  7. You don't want to over cook it
  8. Meanwhile, combine all filling ingredients into a bowl
